Looking for an easy way to “go green”? Lighten your carbon footprint by changing your lightbulb.
Use CFLs (compact fluorescent lightbulbs), readily available at most stores now, and they’ll not only outlast your old bulbs (they last about 10x as long), but they’re energy efficient, meaning they use less power. Each CFL saves you about $30 over the life of the bulb.
Accoring to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, if every American household were to swap just one bulb to CFL, we would save enough energy to light more than 2.5 million homes for a year and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of nearly 800,000 cars.
How’s that for easy?

I changed some of my bulbs to CFL where light quality doesn't matter -- stairways and porches -- but when I put them into my table lamps, it felt like office lighting -- sickly blue-green. That's bad for my mental health.
hi anne,
How long ago did you last try CFLs? I know that when they first came out, they were not only more expensive, but they did tend to only be available in one type, possibly the kind that gave off the "sickly blue-green" color you remember.
Now they not only cost about the same as traditional incandescent bulbs, but you can also find them in all of the traditional styles: bright white, daylight, three-way. I hope you'll give 'em another try :)
